Troy Mariage, PhD, Associate Professor in the Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education Department at Michigan State University. His research interests are in applying a sociocultural lens to the areas of cognitive strategy instruction, written expression, and teaching learning-to-learn strategies in content areas for students with and without disabilities. He currently serves as Program Coordinator in the Special Education Program at Michigan State University.
Johanna Kuyvenhoven, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Education at Calvin College. She teaches at undergraduate and graduate levels for the teaching of reading (as well as for the Michigan Reading Specialist Certification). Her research interests are centered by the relationships between orality and literacy education, especially in school classrooms. As International Consultant to UNICEF in West Africa, this research comes to bear on her collaborative development of primary school language arts teaching and learning materials and teacher training.
