Conference Review

Interested in knowing more about the brain and how it learns?  I've got the perfect conference for you!  The Learning and the Brain Conference is not only user-friendly, but it is geared toward applying current research for intervention purposes.  This conference is a gathering of professionals who are determined to make brain research accessible to parents, teachers and health care practitioners.  I have attended this conference numerous times and I always come away with practical information that I can share with the parents and schools that I work with.  Oftentimes, parents will say "so what?" when they hear research data presented by scientists working in the field.  This is the conference to attend if you want to know the answer to that question.

Typically held three times a year (November, February and May) in different locations, the conference has varied topics of current interest.  In addition, there are two summer institutes, one held on each coast.

The May conference, held in Washington, DC examines “Focused Minds: Enhancing Student Attention and Motivation.” The opportunity to be part of the change occurring in this area would allow you to coordinate attending one of the summer institutes. The June  institute, held in Groton, MA is “Making Connections: the Art and Science of Teaching.” The second institute, held in Santa Barbara, CA in August, will present on “Neuroscience and the Classroom:  Strategies for Maximizing Students Engagement,  Memory and Potential.” In November, the conference is held in Boston. If you prefer a west coast locale, the February conference is San Francisco could be the place for you. The topics for both of these upcoming conference have not yet been released; go to www.edupr.com for a description soon.

I wish I had the time to attend all of them! Please let us know if you do attend any of these conferences and hear a speaker who you think would be appropriate for our yearly Michigan IDA conference.
